Rocket Crotch Halloween

"!!!"

date: November 4, 2008

I likes Jezza's story best, though I chuckled vigorously at Mocha's constant interruptions. Let's face it, I always love Mocha. What episode will come next, Crotchmas?

Also, the guy a few reviews below me might have had his bad reviews deleted, let's not forget about that :X

Had trouble "aiming" my character at certain enemies with the controls, especially the ones you have to hit from the back. Because you can only move side to side or diagonally, it's tough when your target is rotating in full 360 degrees. That aside, it was an amusing shooter type game.

A Madness Mystery

"Woah"

submission: A Madness Mystery
date: September 23, 2008

That's glorious - I almost completely forgot that Blockhead's 'birthday', aka first submission to the portal, is 2 days from now :O Seems you know all our characters better than we the creators do :D

In fact, that's what I liked the most about this. Aside from Pico (who seemed more like he was just along for the ride), you really played off the individual character personalities really well. I sorta wanted to complain that the voices sounded like they could have used more emphasis by speaking louder into the microphone, but I tend to forget that not everyone has super duper microphones, and loudness can crap up the quality fast.

Great job! This one was recommended to me by Krinkels himself, and I'm glad he did. Happy madness day!

Author's Response:

Thanks for the review man. I'm glad you liked it.

In regards to Pico, I based him off the flash I did for Pico day this year. Tis a bit self indulgent but meh...whores will have their trinkets.

Love your flashes and thanks again for the review.

Then I Run

"Good, but something suffered."

submission: Then I Run
date: July 20, 2008

Felt like I had to say something, because this was a very nicely and carefully created piece with just one major flaw that I couldn't get over. That flaw is the lack of any easing on any of the tweens, and I fear it really kept me from getting into it.

I dunno, it was terribly distracting to me when beautiful pieces of art jerk around on screen and then stop just as extremely, over and over. It was most noticeable during the wheat stalk scene, when, instead of swaying and bobbing, they were kind of jerking around awkwardly. I would highly recommend looking into adding some easing to your tweens. If you're not familiar with Flash's easing function, I would be happy to help you get used to it on request.

That aside, onto the good stuff. The Firth/KolBelov influence was pretty clear here. I particularly liked the color desaturation; it kept everything very bleak. Song choice worked with the visuals as well (or vice versa), and the use of FBF was very careful and added a lot to it.

Keep up the good work, and I look forward to the fruit of your improvements!

Author's Response:

Wow I got a review from the Blockhead-guy:)

I do know of the easing function in flash and I DO use it here and there.. but you could be right.. maybe I should practice more with it in the future.

Except for that I'm glad you liked my film and I really hope you will like my future work as well.

YOTAM TODAY'S #1 HOT NEW ANIMATOR

I wanna be as brave as you and manage to submit cartoons based on all sorts of subjects, rather than being confined to one or two series. There's a music video to a song I wrote years ago that I MIGHT JUST do, thanks to you.

Also, why is Dead or Alive (the 80s band, durrr) the bad side of the internet!?

Love,
Swain

Author's Response:

Yeah, but making all of these still make me feel unproductive with the Nameless series.
It's a lose lose situation.

WELL THANK YOU SIR,
I shall be expecting at least 50 frames of credit to me in that music video, if you do end up making it.

2 - The Story of Khale

"Glad it's finally catching on."

date: May 31, 2008

It may sound strange, but your suffering is my pleasure.

I love watching movies with long, uncut camera shots, knowing it probably took them an entire day of shooting just to get the shot right, because if one person screws up then the entire shot needs to be done again...but then what you see in the film is the fruit of all that labor. Taking that as an example, actually seeing the effort that your characters and settings resonate...it's really an experience. Independent animators are constantly in competition between the benefits of time spent to increase quality versus the risk of dragging a project on too long without adding anything fundamentaly worthwhile via that effort.

But seeing effort pay off. that's where I get the most fun out of someone's work. I really do look forward to more success from you.

Salute!

submission: Tank Epic
date: May 1, 2008

This deserves a place in the Tankmen series page, and with it a place in the hall of legendary fan films.

Content-wise I'd complain about it not being a comedy, but I liked how you kinda fill in the blanks on the setting of the series itself, with your take on the combat that has defined the world in which the Tankmen effort to be funny. I'm sure that's an element of the series that many people have been wondering about, and your suggestion makes for great entertainment indeed.

For that sir, I thank you. Good luck!

Tankmen Infinity

"Impressed"

submission: Tankmen Infinity
date: April 30, 2008

The idea of a self-contained fan episode is an awesome idea. Although there was a lot of deviation from JohnnyUtah's style, there were a lot of unique additions to keep this thing interesting...for me, it was namely the pseudo 3d, which lent a lot of uniqueness to the characters. I especially liked the loyalty to the voice styles of the original characters, and the dramatic angles had me pretty jealous some of the time :D

Some of the jokes weren't my flavor, though I liked most of the humor. And your timing was spot-on.

Good luck in the competition! I'll cross my fingers for ya.
